Data alone does not set the terms
Publishing accurate data tells AI what is true. It does not tell AI how your business wants to be represented, which source wins when two disagree, or where you would rather not appear at all. Those are your terms, and they should travel with your data.
What you set
Your instructions cover three things.
First, source authority. You state that the record you published is authoritative for your business, so an answer built from an older page found elsewhere is the one that gets corrected.
Second, representation. Your own wording on how the business, its products and its policies should be described. Not a marketing paragraph, a plain statement of what is accurate and what is not.
Third, exclusions. A list of subject areas where your published data must not be used to build an answer. Every one of them is switched on by default, so a business that changes nothing is still excluded from all of them.
Published, not requested
Instructions are published in the same authorised channel as the rest of your data, so they arrive with it rather than sitting in a policy document nobody retrieves. Any AI company retrieving your record retrieves your terms with it.
