Business Terms

These are the general terms on which a business publishes data to MasterDB. They cover what you are responsible for, what MasterDB does with what you publish, and the control you keep over it. Detailed account terms for the Business Portal are separate and are accepted there.

MasterDB is data infrastructure layer for AI. You publish your business identity, product catalogue, jobs, events and news. AI systems connected to MasterDB retrieve that authorised data to answer questions.

Your data and your responsibility

You are responsible for everything you publish to MasterDB.

• The data must be accurate and current. If something changes, such as a price, stock position, opening hour, job listing or event date, you are responsible for updating it.
• The data must be lawful, and it must comply with the rules that apply to your industry and to the goods or services you describe.
• You must have the right to publish it. That includes the rights in any text, image, brand, trade mark or third-party material you upload, and any permission you need from another party whose information you are publishing.
• You must not publish personal data about individuals unless you have a lawful basis to do so and are entitled to make it available for retrieval.

By publishing, you confirm that you hold these rights and permissions, and you keep responsibility for the content of what you publish.

What MasterDB does with what you publish

MasterDB stores your data exactly as you submit it. We do not rewrite it, summarise it, embellish it or change its meaning.

We make your published data available to AI companies that are connected to MasterDB. Retrieval is authorised and recorded, so a request for your data is made by a connected party and is logged.

We do not sell your data as a database to third parties outside that retrieval, and we do not present it as anyone else’s.

What MasterDB does not control

When an AI company retrieves your data, it decides how to word the answer it gives to the person asking. MasterDB does not control:

• the wording, tone or length of an AI answer
• what an AI system chooses to include or leave out
• how an answer is displayed or ranked in that AI system’s interface

What MasterDB provides is the accurate, authorised source. What the AI does with it is that company’s own product decision. We are not responsible for an AI answer that misstates your data, though we will look into it if you tell us through the contact form at /contact.

Your control

You decide what you publish and you can change it at any time.

• You choose which data to publish and which to keep back.
• You can update or correct anything you have published.
• You can withdraw any data, or all of it, at any time. Once withdrawn, it stops being available for new retrievals.
• You can block individual AI companies, so that a company you have blocked does not retrieve your data.

Withdrawal stops future retrieval through MasterDB. It cannot reach back into a copy an AI company retrieved and retained before you withdrew, or into an answer already given, because that sits in that company’s systems and not in ours.

Publishing to AI is free

Publishing your data to MasterDB and making it available to AI systems is free for businesses.

Advertising and promoting published data are optional. You do not need them to publish, and nothing about your published data depends on taking them. They are set up in the Business Portal and are governed by the terms you accept there.

Verification

Before you can publish, your business must be verified. Verification exists so that the data in MasterDB comes from the business it claims to come from. It is separate from authorisation: your data is authorised because you published it.

You must give accurate information for verification, and you must tell us if something material changes, such as your business ceasing to trade or the account moving to different control. We may re-check verification at any time, and we may pause publishing while a check is open.

Acceptable use

Everything you publish must follow our acceptable use rules, which set out what may and may not be published to MasterDB. Those rules form part of these terms.

Suspension and termination

We may remove specific data, suspend publishing, or close an account where:

• data is inaccurate, unlawful or published without the right to publish it
• the acceptable use rules are not followed
• verification fails, lapses or turns out to have been based on false information
• there is an attempt to manipulate AI answers, or to interfere with MasterDB or its security
• we are required to act by law

Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you what the problem is and give you a chance to fix it before we act. Where the problem is serious, we may act first and tell you after.

You can stop publishing at any time by withdrawing your data or closing your account.

No guarantee of outcome

MasterDB makes your accurate data available for authorised retrieval. We do not promise any particular level of retrieval, visibility, traffic, enquiries or sales, because those depend on what people ask AI systems and on how those systems answer.

Getting your data back

Your account data is yours to take at any time. From the Account screen in the Business Portal you can download a copy of your account data, covering your business details, your users and access, and the records you have published. Your product catalogue is deliberately not part of that download, because it is your own data and you already hold it in the systems you published it from.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product develops. The current version is the one on this page, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Where a change materially affects businesses that publish to MasterDB, we will give notice through the Business Portal or by email. Continuing to publish means you accept the updated terms.
